GOALS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Accomplishments for District Two

Installation of the long overdue new decorative led street lights has begun and over the next couple of years will be installed throughout District 2.  Rhonda fought for these lights especially for the Liesureville and the North Kendall Green neighborhoods (which currently have few or no street lights).  Covid-19, supply chain problems and obtaining necessary easements have combined to delay this process, but the light polls have started to go up! This a major component to safe streets, reduced crime and beautification

She campaigned hard for the passage of the G.O. Bond which funded this incredible project – and she has insisted on and is actively working to add NE 3rd Avenue to the city’s future beautification plans.

The North Pompano Park (NP Park) field and parking improvements are nearly complete but Rhonda has let the City know that a lot more needs to be done, especially the concession stand at the sports field where our Pompano Eagles football program practices and plays its games.

An unofficial dog park on the Southside of NP Park had been used by local residents of the Highlands for years and Rhonda convinced the City to create a permanent Dog Park within NP Park, but she has found it to be completely inadequate and has been promised by the city that this will be fixed with expansion and improvements. “I know many of the dog owners that used the old unofficial dog park are disappointed with what the City did – so am I. I promise this will be corrected.”

She fought for this and it makes a big difference in the look of Cresthaven and the Highlands. Forty-five percent of the housing in these two neighborhoods are rentals. Typically renters move out on the weekend and leave their unwanted mattresses, furniture and other stuff on the curb where it would sit out all week under the old Friday bulk pickup schedule – making our neighborhoods look terrible.

Rhonda has worked with residents and BSO to identify problem areas and has successfully obtained speed humps where traffic studies justify them. More studies are in the queue.

City Wide Accomplishments

She is a student of redevelopment and has supported smart responsible growth in the City of Pompano Beach:

  • Improvements at the beach such as the new and improved Fisher Family Pier, colorful new lifeguard stands, a splash pad for the kids, new restaurants and bars and the award winning nautical designed parking garage.
  • The revitalization of Atlantic Blvd with its beautification, street-scaping, enhanced store fronts, new shops, restaurants and bars. The final plan removes only one westbound lane – with minimal traffic impact.
  • New developments in Old Town including restaurants, art galleries, shops and housing.
  • The planned development of Pompano Live at the Isle Casino – which will be a regional destination for visitors, businesses and new residents – a massive job-generator.
  • Improvements to Dixie Highway.
  • Moving forward on the planning for the New Downtown Innovation District.
  • Rhonda works closely with Law Enforcement – identifying and eliminating areas of crime in her district.
  • She was a strong supporter of acquiring the Shot Spotter system which allows BSO to get to a shooting within minutes and she supported real time cameras for our parks.
  • Urged reinstating the Ambassador Outreach Program to work with homeless persons.
  • Worked with the city to identify homeless gathering places in her district and in the downtown.
  • Supported strengthening city ordinances governing allowable activity in our parks and increasing park ranger monitoring.
  • Supported and sponsored the city’s panhandling ordinance and a community court to more quickly adjudicate violations of these ordinances.

Because of the smart growth supported by Commissioner Eaton and approved by a majority of the City Commission – our city taxes remain among the lowest in Broward County.

Another benefit to the growth occurring in Pompano Beach is jobs, economic development, work and new customers for our local businesses and trades people.

Rhonda initiated and secured enactment of a zoning change for fences in the side and rear yards for corner lots and lot through properties that eliminates the 4-foot height regulation on lot lines and the four-foot setback requirement for 6 foot fences. Thus, residents will no longer be denied the full use of their lots and are now allowed to erect a six foot fence on their property line

More Needs to Be Done to Improve Our Neighborhood

Future goals for district 2 include:

  • Non-Taxing Safe Neighborhood Districts
  • Reducing Cut Through Traffic and Speeders
  • Additional Street Beautification Projects
  • Pandemic-related Economic Recovery Measures
  • Continued improvements to North Pompano Park – especially the Concession Stand
  • Improvements and beautification to NE 3rd   through the North Kendall Green Community
  • Expand and improve the North Pompano Park Dog Park
  • Getting sidewalks in Leisureville
  • She is working with County Commissioner Lamar Fisher on a plan for the Highlands to make re-use water hook-ups affordable – her plan would provide for hooking up at no up-front cost.

“There is so much more we need to do – re-elect me and I will keep working for you! I Can’t Do It Without Your Support! Vote for Rhonda Eaton this Nov. 8th.”
